"All I came up with was that I didn’t want a daughter of mine NEAR this book until she’d had at least one good, solid relationship with a nice boy, because no way in HELL was she looking at this as an ideal romance."
So much agreement on this! I was quite disturbed by the way romance is portrayed in the books, and even more disturbed by how wildly popular it is among young teenage girls. It frightens me. I quite enjoyed this post from Shapely Prose (a great blog!) "On Twilight, Romance, and Antifeminist Ideas". It eloquently outlined some of my biggest problems with the book.
I read it for the same reasons that you did, mostly that I don't like to mock what I haven't actually read, but I don't think I'd ever be able to subject myself to the rest of the series. I was just too upset by the whole thing.
